Strange noise at idle after Oil change + Fuel Filter
Post Body

Let me start by saying I am no stranger to diesels, growing up on a farm will do that to you. I have worked on everything from a CAT bulldozer to my 2500 Ram w/Cummins 6.7. Yesterday I did my first oil change along with new fuel filter on my new to me 2022 Ram 1500 Longhorn, 32k miles. All previous service had been done at the dealer.

Everything went normally as oil and filter changes should. I used a STP oil filter and Wix fuel filter, Valvoline Euro 5W-40 for oil. Local dealer was out of both MOPAR filter numbers as usual and this is the combo they use when parts doesn't have factory stock. All was well and normal when started up after purging the fuel canister.

Finished everything up, moved a couple of trailers back to where they belong and parked the truck under shelter. Two hours later I get in truck for a quick grocery store run, everything still normal.

But, when I stopped at the first traffic light, I felt an unusual vibration at idle, didn't pay it much attention but did look at oil temp and pressure, all normal. Get home and investigate, at idle it sounds like a valve opening and closing or the vacuum pump on my old 7.3 Powerstroke. Actually sounds a lot like my '20 6.7 Cummins at idle. Soon as RPMs come up just off idle, it's gone. I put it back up on lift running to check for leaks but all was okay. Can't exactly put my finger on where the sound is coming from.

Wife and me are taking this vehicle on a 7000 mile, month long trip across the US and back starting this Sunday. I'm not really concerned but would rather it not break on me in the middle of the desert!

Any thoughts from those with more Eco experience than myself?

Thanks!
