Gift card balance disappeared

Hi purchase a item using a gift card and had about $298 of $300 gift card balance left attached to my account. Now I tried purchasing an item and for an error message that the card cabt be added to my order. I went back to homepage and tried doing it all over but to my surprise the balance has disappeared. Any one with same experience or a way out
