How to run your own game!
If you want to run a game here's a few simple steps on how to do it.
Start with the system you want to use. Are you going to run a PDQ# game? Homebrew Mouse Guard? Home brew of your own? You'll need a structured system. It doesn't have to be complicated. You just need a basic set of core rules that your game operates around. Once you've got that figured out, message the mods and let us know! We'll create a special flair for your campaign.
Got your system? Great! Now let's looks at recruiting. Start with posting a [Recruiting] thread. This lets the adventurers know that there's going to be a game starting soon. You will want to include a basic idea of what you're going to be doing with this so that people will know what kind of game they will be playing. Don't forget to determine how many people you want in you game. If you're new to this, start small. limit your game to 4-5 players until you've got your sea legs.
Now it's time to get to the meat of it. Story time. Since you've got a structure and player, you need a story. That's what you're doing. It's like a choose your own adventure. You present a scenario to the players and let them react. But, you'll want, at the very least, an outline of your campaign. As you go, you can fill in the blanks as far as details go.
If there are any special instructions, use the [Meta] tag to help your players. This will provide them with details about your game!
When you're ready, go ahead and post your [Adventure] thread. This is where your story unfolds. Start with a nice simple start, such as your players happen to be in a park or tavern when things go bad. How ever you want! Use this thread to play out your story. I recommend that you have the top level comments be the various aspects of your story and have the adventures respond to those. But that's just me. It's your game! Your story! Do what you like!
As your game is going, feel free to make a [Misc] thread for all out of character discussions. It's a place to talk about the game, to give hints to your players, or just relax and chat while working on the next section of your story!
Once you're all done with your campaign, use the [Synopsis] tag to kinda do a debrief of your story. This would be the epilogue where you wrap everything up. It's a place for players to give feedback and help you grow as a GM!
As always, the mods are here to help! Feel free to ask us questions or send us a message with suggestions! I promise we don't bite!
