Hi everyone,
Long-time reader here. I've been a proponent of the VOO/VTI portfolio. However, I find myself pondering about the possibility of a significant permanent market collapse in the US.
We’ve seen historical recoveries post-collapse, but my question hinges on the 'what-ifs' of an unprecedented event where the indices do not recover. If there any scenario outside of US' collapse as a country that would cause a permanent drawdown in the stock market?
I hope to have a serious discussion on the matter, as many of us have our life savings in these broad-market instruments. Looking for data-driven perspectives, experience-based observations, and even critical counterpoints to this inquiry.
Two things I'll get out of the way:
- Yes, I know some of you (including me) have some VXUS
- Not looking for "If the U.S collapses, this will be the least of your worries." No, I'm going to care about my life savings even if WW3 occurs.
Thanks!
