Brand new - looking for a group to play with

Hey all. Long time EQ1/EVE/other MMO player here. For whatever reason, I've never really tried EQ2 beyond the first few levels and its randomly piqued my interest. I'm not great at playing things solo, so I'm hoping to find a few people to play with.
I've read about Varsoon, and I'd be okay with trying that out, but I am curious how the population is now and if I've missed the boat to really get involved there? Otherwise I'm open on server choice.
