I suffered physical and psychological violence as a child. Daily beatings and spankings for no reason at all, awful things said at me (“I wish I had aborted you”) since I was a toddler. I constantly had bruises and almost got my nose broken once. I also tried suicide when I was 12. My mother is almost 60 and she still says vile things about children in general and about how much she hates them.
Nowadays I have a very idealistic personality. I didn’t become angry at the world but I transformed my pain and trauma into motivation. I’m into Education, working with children and I like the idea of being the person I needed when I was a child and there wasn’t anyone to protect me. I’m very passionate about it. Most people around me admire this about me but they don’t know my story. I get very emotional when I talk about it.
In what ways being a survivor affected your personality?
