A month ago I made a post about being let go of a company I was an independent contractor for.

But after speaking with a career lawyer, I basically explained that the company I was working for said I was gonna be a full-time employee but because we weren't on payroll, I had to sign a contract that said I'll be working as an independent contractor which I did. When I spoke to a career lawyer about this, he said that even though on paper it said I was an independent contractor, I was really being treated as an employee in the company. I was expected to work from 9-5 during those days. Because I didn't set my own hours, I was really an employee, not an independent contractor. After the conversation, he suggested I report this to the Ministry of Labour about what my previous company is doing.

My question is would I need to call my EI and share this fact with them. Would going to the Ministry of Labour would somehow get back to EI or CRA about this and correct them about it? The reason I ask is during that time I spoke to someone at servicecanada and explained the situation to them after I applied for EI regular, I was advised to apply for EI for self-employed which I did. But because I wasn't truly self-employed, should I call EI to explain this?
