Hey guys, Today we have something a little special for you, we have been working with Revealed Recordings for a bit, especially in our Discord, for events and working a bit closer with some of their artists (with a lot more to come!).
Today we are starting an interview-style article about some of Revealed's artists and releases, to learn some of their artists and their genres a bit closer.
We are starting out with KVSH and Tim Hox, who just recently released Corocito together wth Cumbiafrica.
Corocito is a Spanish House song, a mix out of latin grooves with house music. Spanish House is an up and coming genre that is becoming more and more popular, especially with recent releases like John Summit - La Danza or Hugel & Cumbiafrica - Morenita, with Cumbiafrica also being involved in the release of Corocito.
Throughout this interview, we will learn about these artists, the genre and where they think it is headed, as well as some additional thoughts by Revealed's A&R manager Ortzy Arbinaga on why they signed this style of music.
Who is KVSH?
I consider myself an 'open format' music producer inside electronic music. I don’t have a specific genre in my productions, but I always like to create different styles without rules.
Who is Tim Hox?
Tim Hox is a DJ / Producer / Scientist from the Netherlands who is doing experiments in music. Everything what you hear of him is combinations of genres and creating a real hox vibe to it.
How did you guys start out producing?
KVSH: I started producing in 2009 when I listened to Deadmau5 for the first time.
Tim Hox: I started out by making my own edits. I loved deejaying but I felt some tracks could be better if I added some stuff. That's how I got started.
How did you guys come around to Spanish House?
Tim Hox: I think the first track is something from Vintage Culture. It was his whole vibe of that remix from Shouse - Love Tonight. I loved it instantly and fell in love with the genre.
What exactly is Spanish House?
KVSH: Spanish house is the combination between Latin grooves with house music. It’s not only about having Latin vocals, but also our native percussions, drums, elements and everything that comes from Latin America.
Tim Hox: Basically House with a Spanish vocal.
Ortzy Arbinaga: It's a term to call the new kind of Tech House sound from 2021/2022 with some influences from Bass House, which has Spanish vocals on it. Most of them use Reggaeton or Urban vocals but we decided to create a song from vocals originally from a style called 'Cumbia', an ethnic rhythm from Colombia.
Where does Spanish House come from and how did it evolve?
KVSH: We listen to Latin grooves and house music here in Brazil since 2018, when I did a version for "Elvis Crespo - Suavemente", this track became so big in my country and got support from international Dj’s like Nervo, Skazi…
Tim Hox: Tbh I don't know where it came from, but it came by storm. It is insane how this whole vibe has takenover the house scene and it is here to stay.
Ortzy Arbinaga: I think the original style came from a combination between Latin House and Tech House. Before it used to be slower BPMs with softer drops and it evolved into more aggressive drums, effects, and more dynamic structures.
What do you think makes Spanish House so popular?
KVSH: For me, it's because Spanish is the 4th language of the world, and the main language here in Latin America. We can see he growth of Reggaeton in different countries, and now we are facing this evolution in electronic music as well.
Tim Hox: The Spanish language has a vibe to it, I can't describe what it is exactly but the rhythm in their words and sentences are something that gets you dancing.
Ortzy Arbinaga: Definitely, the big impact that Latin music has worldwide. Reggaeton music and singers are really big at the moment so that makes the DJs create mashups and bootlegs with songs that people know. That combined with the new wave of Tech House that makes the people dance constantly during the parties, it turns into the perfect combination.
What made Revealed decide to sign this Spanish House song?
Ortzy Arbinaga: We have always been exploring styles, that's the reason why we signed Tim Hox exclusively 2 years ago. We saw his potential in creating the new wave of EDM and we wanted him to collaborate with a South American producer who had a different audience, who knew how to work club records and who knew what to do to turn Tim's original version that was more a "Festival record" into something more attractive for most of the crowds. It was a great match!
Where do you expect the genre to go in the following years?
KVSH: I don’t know how the genre is going to be in the next few years, but I can tell you that we're going to listen to a lot of Latin stuff into the electronic music dance scene for the next years. Besides from that, more and more DJ's from Latin America will be touring internationally, which will have it's impact on the sound as well.
Tim Hox: Taking over every mainstage.
Ortzy Arbinaga: I think it will stay for a long time! Many dance music fans are looking for something new, a bit let commercial but at the same time made to dance. We don't know for how long this Tech House wave will last but it's definitely a sound that will stay for a long time.
What are your personal goals for the next few years?
KVSH: My personal goal for the next years is to stay creative as a producer, always looking for new upcoming genres, artists, and collaborating without any rules. That’s the drive for my career.
Tim Hox: Getting my own world tour and producing an album.
Pineapple on Pizza?
KVSH: Love pineapple on pizza! 😂😂😂
Tim Hox: NO
Ortzy Arbinaga: Hell NO! Augh hahah
