Context from last year:
Iām pleased to present you with the r/EDM Hall of Fame/Blacklist! We have received a significant number of requests over the last 6 months or so to institute a Hall of Fame for the sub similar to some of the other music subs out there. There are several purposes for having this Hall of Fame:
We want to showcase some of the most important, popular, and influential songs that have been released over the years
We want newcomers to the scene to have an easy-to-use "starter" resource to immerse themselves in the music and become āedm literateā
The Hall of Fame will act as a āblacklistā ā songs on the HoF list are not allowed to be posted as throwbacks on the weekends, which will reduce the karma-whoring throwback traffic on the sub and also free up front page bandwidth for less-well-known throwbacks to gain visibility
We will institute an exception policy for blacklisted tracks if there is a very good reason for posting a throwback that is on the list. Reach out to the moderators for permission before posting. Examples of appropriate reasons for posting HoF throwbacks would include the passing of both Avicii and Robert Miles, or the 10-year anniversary of Justiceās Cross album. The Mod team has full discretion with what constitutes an appropriate reason for posting.
I want to emphasize that this HoF is a WORK IN PROGRESS, and the input of the sub is necessary to expand it. We will post an induction/nomination thread every year to include additional music in the HoF list, with specific voting/nomination criteria to be determined. To be eligible for the HoF list, a song must be at least 2 years old ā this is what we consider to be a āthrowbackā for all intents and purposes. (For our purposes here, that means anything that was released the first half of 2017 or earlier)
One final point to make is that electronic dance music has been around for decades. There are countless important and classic tracks that have been released and have made an impact on the scene and would be included in a Hall of Fame that exclusively focused on influential dance tracks. Realistically, however, many of those tracks wonāt draw enough upvotes in this sub to really qualify as ākarma whoring,ā and for the most part those tracks arenāt posted here very frequently at all. In the interest of expanding this subās music horizons, weāve thus made the decision that a popular threshold is important to be included in the r/EDM HoF beyond just impact/influence and we hope that those older influential tracks will be posted here. Since many people in the subās audience arenāt very familiar with the older (and non-mainstream) body of electronic music, it would be a disservice to the community to blacklist those types of tracks.
Let the nominations commence! If you wish to nominate a track, please post in Artist - Song format, one track per post. This thread will be in competition mode, and the 20 most upvoted tracks will be added to the HoF document. Pending the volume of response, we (the mod team) may adjust the number of inducted tracks accordingly.
Here is the list of Hall of Fame tracks we are starting out with, and the 20 tracks from this post that are the most upvoted will be added for the future!
If you have any questions for feedback, please feel free to leave them in the comments section! We want this to be a good resource for the community and are open to taking feedback and changing the process if necessary. Enjoy!
