Looking for some help with my [[Karlov of the Ghost Council]] Deck. I've been trying to make him better and stronger, but it is getting harder and harder to cut cards and put in important things.
I'll break it down as to what the deck is doing:
Soul Sisters - As my meta is (mostly) creature based, a Soul Sister package means that Karlov can get out of hand VERY quickly and early. There are times where turn 3-5 he's already almost one shotting people with commander damage. It also means gaining life on other peoples turns so Karlov can get out of hand easily, or just gain allot of life
Voltron - Anything with Karlov can turn him into a voltron commander, so a small package of Swords of X and Y, and a few things to give him evasion, ways to get in or just plain protection are included
Gain/Drain - Less visible, the deck wants to be able to switch gears from gaining life to either draining life from the opponent, or make it near impossible to catch up
Note: [[Sanguine Bond]] was removed because the combo might come out entirely, but Bond only helps with the "draining" part of the strategy, whereas [[Exquisite Blood]] helps with the general "gain life" theme of the deck. EB also combos with more cards, like [[Aetherflux Reservoir]]
Control: With enough life gain, Karlov can also go into more of a control shell, exiling creatures he doesn't want to deal with. This also gives me removal (somewhat) in the command zone
Things I'm wanting to add are in the "Maybe" Board, and anything I am considering removing on my list has an "A" next to it. I'd like to run a bit more graveyard hate, mostly to stop people from playing in their graveyards too much. Allot of decks like [[Geth, Lord of the Vault]], [[Tasigur, the Golden Fang]] and what not exist in my meta, so getting rid of graveyards isn't a bad thing.
There are also allot of decks that are running into more and more activated ability based (Arcum is one of them), so [[Pithing Needle]] and [[Phyrexian Revoker]] would be nice to add.
More card draw/repeatable card draw would be nice too. There are games where I just can't draw enough gas or enough answers to deal with the meta or to recover from a board wipe or protect myself. Alternatively, Tutors are also something I might run more of, to help make sure I get exactly what I want (Karlov is my pet deck, so [[Demonic Tutor]] and [[Vampiric Tutor]] could come out of my other deck to go in here)
More, instant speed "nonland" removal. I find having answers to be great, but most of white and black is creature based. "Yes, that IS good in my meta, but there are times where I'd like to get rid of that Torpor Orb or a creature. It is getting harder and harder to find "catch all" answers like [[Anguished Unmaking]] or [[Utter End]] that can do it all you know?
More/Less Equipment. I dunno if I'm "too deep" into the voltron strategy. Running less equipment means I COULD put in a [[Stony Silence]], allowing me to hate on other artifact based decks, but it means it turns off my deck as well. Or, alternatively, finding "better" equipment that cost less and are much easier to equip ([[Batterskull was removed cause its 5 to play, 5 to equip. [[Hammer of Nazahn]] is also great, but it doesn't help to gain life or give evasion, compared to the Swords or a [[Basilisk Collar]]).
The last thing I'd like to find, is "alternative ways to get counters onto Karlov". [[Erebos, God of the Dead]] is a thing, but also decks running [[Torpor Orb]] really shut down my deck. Getting ways, like [[Unspeakable Symbol]] to put counters on Karlov means I can still get out of control and can get him bigger or use his ability more if I'm not Needle'd or Revoker'ed myself.
