Thoughts on Politics decks and "table-talk"?

Howdy. I personally really like decks that play Politics and the players as much as the actual game. But, a person at my LGS expressed severe irritation that I play like that ( I was playing a 5 man EDH game with [[Diaochan, Artful Beauty ]] ).
Thus, I was curious on your opinions. Is politics a reasonably fun and acceptable playstyle? Or does it just ruin the game and degenerate the fun?
