So after having the time to sit down and read why the cards were banned, I'd like to share my thoughts on it
1.The Mana
As someone who has been to a few mtg commander tournaments, now I can say the biggest turn-off to going is, how far a mana cript could set u ahead. The number of times I've had it were my opponent would have 5 man on turn 2 was insane. IMO, there should never have been a way to get that much on turn
- The cost
As someone who has always wanted to do better in tournaments, I always hated how expensive these cards were
Mana crypt was almost $200 Jeweled Lotus was almost $100
As someone trying to get better, I felt they were must haves, and at almost $300, that was insane. Not only that, for new players want to get into the format, that has been a huge turn-off for them. I think with these banned, it is going to bring some new people to the format. Now I get the collectors will not be happy with this, but in the end, we need to remember it's a TCG. Tcg are meant to be played, not collected to sit in a binder, box, shelf, etc. Unused. Yes, they lost value, but that is not the purpose of the cards.
Thire reasons why The main reasons this ban happened were due to exploding mana pools & creativity. As someone who hardly ever uses sol ring in decks, I've always found that combo blan. When I built decks, they are in a way where the deck has multiple creative was to go off The fact that these were banned makes me think we'll see decks that don't just focus on speed and flooding to win but instead. Decks that focus on speed and creativity ways to win
Final thoght
The only card I think could have a slim chance of being unbanned is Jeweled Lotus. That card was built for comander and is now un unable
Overall, I think these changes will be good for the edh community as a whole for new and old players
