I Finally Named My Decks, and I'm Feeling a Little Smug (or "A Quick Tour of the Decks in My Bag")

Post Body

I felt inspired last night, and oficially gave my roster of Commander decks proper names. I just want someone to notice my personal brand of cleverness:

A Dancing Star (or "Nothing but the Beginning of Terror")

  • My Rakdos Goad/Chaos/Enchantment deck. Keep everyone attacking each other, wittle down their life totals with wild enchantments, and close out with a mass threaten effect.
  • "One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star” is from Nietzhe.
  • "Nothing but the Beginning of Terror" is from Rainer Maria Rilke

After Careful Consideration... (or "Print Secret Lair Dino-Riders, You Cowards")

  • The Dinosaur deck I felt obligated to build after pulling Pantlaza, Gishasth, Welcome to..., Sneak Attack, Invasion of Ikora and Urza's Incubator in a particularly spicy series of booster purchases.
  • "After careful consideration, I've decided not to endorse your park" is from Jurassic Park.
  • Dino-Riders just ruled. I miss those toys.

Consumed as it Is, by it's own Calcuations (or "Nonbinary, but Actually just Binary")

  • My first build, and my 'Flagship.' A highly upgraded 'Quantum Quandrix' precon. It's Quandrix, not Simic.
  • 'Consumed as it is...' comes straight from Esix's lore article.
  • 'Nonbinary...' came from a reddit thread where I was mentioning that I wasn't sure of the gender of some of my commanders, and someone 'Um, Actually'd' me. I lol'd.

Elf Determination (or "You Should Really Read My Commander's Second Ability")

  • Elf-ball quasi-voltron, after I ended up with a GN3 box I didn't pay for.
  • 'Elf Determination' is just a silly pun.
  • 'You should really read...' is what I tell people whenever I break this out.

I Reconize those Words (or "My Coworkers Discuss Elden Ring")

  • My mono-white 1/ 1 counters synergy deck, built from the bones of a Nils pillowfort deck that wasn't working.
  • The name is exactly what it sounds like. A couple coworkers were talking about the new Elden Ring game the other day, and I was like 'Hey, I recognize those words.'

Just Vibes (or "Slightly Slanted Steeze")

  • My aura-shenanigans deck. I just took a random legendary I wasn't using and went with it. Keeps getting better as I add new cards.
  • Vibes, Rizz, Steeze... That's kind of like Aura, right? At least the way the kids use it? Forgive me, I'm 41.

Like Slivers, Also (or "Proxies are Good and Cool, Acutally")

  • My 'Oops All Proxies' sliver deck. $8k to buy legit.
  • 'Like Slivers, Also' comes from my favorite LLRMTG Friday Night's episode 'Commandeered.'
  • 'Proxies are Good and Cool, Actually" is moreorless a Spice8Rack video's title.

Very Old Testament, but With a New Twist... (or 'The Soul is not a Single Unity")

  • One I started to build, abandoned, and decided to finish just recently. Getting a lot of good trades through Cardsphere. Highly recommend it. But also support your LGS... especially if they have a bar & snacks like mine.
  • 'Very Old Testament...' is from the X-Files episode Kaddish), about a golem.
  • "The Soul is..." is from Gustav Meyrink's The Golem)

WalMart Gambit & Summer Goth Rogue (or "I'm Not Sure How I Win With This")

  • I may or may not have designed this in a highly inebriated state.
  • 'Walmart Gambit' is from Maldhound's summation of Codie.
  • 'Summer Goth Rogue' is my ideal woman, at least for a couple weeks of bad decisions.
  • I don't know what I'm doing with this deck, and I still don't.

Where Did That Allen Key Go? (or "Abraca-Eff-You")

  • Another attempt at building something that doesn't have the primary wincon of 'turn creatures sideways.'
  • 'Where Did That Allen Key Go?' is an indirect reference to LLRMTG's Friday Nights episode Constructed.
  • Abraca-Eff-You is a reference to The Adventure Zone.
