Frodo and Sam, counters vs removal

I´m rebuilding my Sam and Frodo precon, and am undecided about which path to follow.

1-Lifegain removal: Basically, gain life and burn opponents, while surviving by removing threats with targeted removal and boardwipes. Also, some stax pieces.

2-Lifegain counters: Take advantage of Heliod and other lifegain synergies like Ajani's Pridemate and Voice of the Blessed.

I already tried some time ago with the first option, and was alright. But I have no idea how effective the second option could get.

I've been playing a lifegain token style and it's super fun. I play it less removal and more food/creature focus and it makes a super fun mid tier deck.
