Hey everyone, after seeing a lot of posts with recurring themes throughout the weekend plus what I saw in person, I think some folk need to be reminded of two very, VERY important things:
1) You are worthy and deserving of respect. If you are experiencing any kind of physical and/or social interaction that is making you uncomfortable, please know that you are empowered to stand up for yourself.
It is truly your body and truly your choice.
And as a not-so-gentle reminder from another community to our fellow festival goers: "Cosplay is NOT consent" AKA: Someone else's attire does not give you permission to do unto them as you please.
2) It is 100% ok to ask for help. Whether it's the items addressed above, distress, or what-have-you, it is 100% ok to ask for help.
Please do not feel like your need for assistance is a weakness or somehow less important than other people's fun. Everyone's safety must be our to priority.
Edit: My bad! There's a third important thing people need to be reminded of.
3) If you see something uncool, fucking do something about it!!! You don't even have to physically do something or confront someone if you're scared. That's fine. Being scared is not a bad thing. Cowardice is. At minimum, find help for the person in need.
Someone passed out and seemingly unresponsive? Find a medic or ground control. Someone clearly receiving unwanted attention and/or touching? Get the cops there immediately.
A 5 minute interruption to your festivities is absolutely worth saving someone from a horrible and/or life threatening experience.
