Debating EDC Bags
Post Body

So I am looking for a messenger bag for every day carry. I am a It professional so I constantly have a bag on me because I am always on call to work remote or need my laptop with me in whatever server closet I might be in that day. So for a bit of a TLDR, I am going to ramble on about my paradox of choice. And then ask if there are any brands or other options I should consider.

I currently use a traditional laptop back pack but it's not a very good one and it just hasn't been a pleasant experience. And honestly I prefer a messenger bag when I can but my company didn't have any that could carry any tools at the time.

I finally decided I am just going to invest in my own bag and get something that can hold the tools and gear that I want with me day in and out. And last for at least a few years.

My hard requirements are:

  1. Padded laptop section accepting devices between 13 to 15 inches.

  2. Must be weather resistant or at least able to be scotch guarded.

  3. must have front flap with latch.

  4. Must have enough capacity to accommodate a bleeder/trauma kit, bag of chargers and misc cables. 2k MAH power bank. And a assortment various tools of the IT trade. (Network tone probe, continuity testers, small driver set etc)

Things that I'd like to have.

  1. Modular internal organization system (MOLLE/Hook & Loop) for spare magazines, knives, or other ccw needs

  2. Admin section that can accommodate several pens, flashlight batteries, spare knives. And one to two 3x6 or so notebooks.

  3. secondary stabilizing strap to sench bag closer to body when carrying it for longer distances, or up and down stairs, or even in casual out door excursions.

  4. More descrite styling vs overt tactical styling. This is more to do with personal preference and the fact that I am frequently walking into board rooms and various other areas with executive exposure vs any grey man desires. And it's probably for the best if I don't always instantly out myself as a mall ninja at work.

So bearing all that in mind I have been scouring the internet to find the perfect super niche bag I have envisioned...

My first choice would probably be the ITS Descrite Messenger Bag

This bag pretty much checks all my boxes with a few accessories. But it's currently out of stock and who knows when it may come back around.

Next would probably be the Nutsac Tacsac 13

It fits the general aesthetic I like and dosent scream "I R Tacticool!" This might be the one I end up with once a few more of their modules are released. Though I would rather opt for the 15 inch version that may be out soonish. This bag dosent seem to have a secondary stabilizer but it's not a real deal breaker.

Then we have TAD Parallax messenger bag

This bag is intriguing to me, and has a pretty cool design and nice aesthetic. But its pricey especially with the options I would want with it. Plus most of those are out of stock. But I still have trouble fully ruling it out

Getting into the options that don't totally meet the discrete criteria I set, we have the Hazard 4 Messenger of Doom

This bag looks mostly non discript unless your into tactical stuff to me. And in general it looks roomy and would easily store all the crap I need and want to carry. And has a cheap stabilizer option available.

Then there is the Direct Action Gear Messenger Bag (MK2)

This one is the most obviously tactical with the webbing on the front. But it is very nicely thought out on the inside. And would certainly hold up well to anything I could throw at it.

So of those listed what would you gravitate towards? Are their any other good options my Google fu has missed?

Thanks for letting me ramble.
