I'm new to tuning and to this reddit, I've done a lot of reading over the last probably 6 months, from both motecs seminar videos and documentation on ECU setup, and generic guides on the process of tuning. I think I'm at the point now where I need to learn by doing it.
I've started going through the base WRX V7 start map provided by motec, I've been modifying it based on my engine as it's a bit of a cross between V7 and V5/6 parts, mostly timing gear is all V5/6 but will be running a GD intake manifold with sensors on the throttle body, different IACV and top feed injectors. I've been getting applicable settings from motecs V5/6 start map and matching them in the V7 map where applicable, (eg. V5/6 WRX REF/SYNC timing settings, V7 top feed injector settings, etc)
Finally to my question. How good are the startup maps in terms of Lambda, fuel and ignition mapping? Lambda I think being the most important.
My plan is to use them as a starting point and make adjustments from there based on wideband and knock, as you do, but considering fueling is based on the lambda map, if the lambda map is not ideal then my fueling can only be as good as the lambda map is right? I'm expecting it to be heavily on the safe side anyway.
Hopefully someone with some experience can stand to read my novel. Cheers.
Engine:EJ207 with 99 WRX heads, standard camsStock Twin Scroll VF37 with suitable headers.GD WRX intake manifold with gutted TGV's and individual COPCustom engine loom to accommodate changes in wiring between the manifolds/cars, all tested on the bench to be working how it should.
