I have been working as an Early Childhood Educator for 10 years now and I don't think I have 10 more years to give. I have experienced burn out time and time again and am at the point where all I think about is what else could I do for a career. The only problem with that is I love the kids and education, so I really don't know what I would do otherwise...anyone else in this predicament? Btw I am an ECE in Australia :)
I slowly climbed the ladder to director and now I am regional director. My job is to visit centres and audit their classrooms for compliance and support the staff. Much more rewarding experience so far as typically educators are happy getting any kind of support in the classroom. Is there an option to climb a little higher in your company? What about home child care(becoming your own boss with a smaller class setting) I hit 10 years this year and understand the feeling of burn out is feeling like you’ve given all you got, tried all your ideas etc etc and now there is nothing new or inspiring left to motivate you (other than when your classroom kids show you they love and need you)
You could also consider joining a training team or developing trainings yourself to offer to the profession. Like a consulting role. This profession needs more experienced educators to share their wealth of knowledge to the newer graduates/hires.
Behaviour/resource consultant? Special needs teacher?
