My coworker keeps giving my school outdated milk
Post Body

So I’ve been working at this childcare center for 2 years and since 2023 I’ve been given outdated milk at minimum 10 times. And not just out of date by one day, it will be out of date by 5 days to a week. At this point, I’ve brought it up to my director multiple times but as it’s the sell by date and the owners have no written rules, there is nothing being done. Am I crazy that serving milk this old is not only gross but like breaking some rule? I’ve worked for the YMCA in the past for a couple years and whenever milk was expired we absolutely could not serve it to children as they had paid for it and I was told it’s illegal to provide expired food to paying customers. Idk does anyone have any advice? I’ve made comments to the cook, thrown the milk out if it’s just too gross, and told other staff and nothing changes. I’m at my wits end. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Just to clarify because I’ve seen some comments about it, on average the milk she is giving us DOES smell and once had small chunks and I do dump it. I’ve looked up the licensing laws in my state (as I’m in Wisconsin you’d expect the rules about dairy to be a little more clear lol) and it only mentions best by dates nothing about sell by dates. She also tends to open a jug say that says sell by 9 on the 10th, open another jug the next day that says sell by 16 and finish that one over the next few days, and then give me back the jug that says sell by 9 on the 16th to use again after I assumed it was finished days ago.

Oh yuck!! 🤢 I’m so sorry to hear that, that’s disgusting.

Sell by isn’t the same as best by- I agree with you that it’s hard to ignore but ultimately if the milk smells and tastes fine then it’s fine to drink.
