For context and more info; I have a 3 year old (I believe turned 3 in July?) in my preschool class. Heās been pulling other childrens hair frequently, for months now. Iāve only been with him for 4-5 months, but my co-teacher says itās been going on for way longer, maybe 7-8? From what Iāve heard, his tricky behavior started with pushing the other children down and laying down on them (she says parents called it āwrestlingā with other family friends) that has since mostly stopped, aside from when he occasionally lays down on someone whoās sitting somewhere he wants to lay down like the cozy corner, but then it turned into hair pulling early this year. When he pulls hair, he twists his fingers in and yanks. Iām also seeing some finger /hand movements like that when heās just walking around the classroom. I believe heās stimming. The other children are becoming scared of this behavior, I had one in particular start to cry hysterically when he walked in her direction today) but my lead teacher refuses to talk to parents or take any action, saying itās just our job to block and the other children should know to move out of the way. She says she doesnāt want to make them feel discouraged about his behaviors.
My questions
1) how do we talk to parents?
2) is this something reasonable worth unenrolling for? My lead says no, because itās ānot serious like bitingā
3) how can I best support him? In my experience, 3 is getting older for these behaviors and Iām suspicious that heās needing more support than my lead is willing to talk to parents about.
4)Weāre having to shadow constantly, Iām feeling incredibly burned out and feeling like Iām failing at keeping the other children safe when he is able to grab them.
