Long vent post lmao
My Roman Empire is that right before my director put in her two weeks notice, she called me into her office and told me sheād want for me to apply for and take on her position as director of the center. I applied for her job, got an interview and got declined due to āa lack of administrative experience.ā Iāve been at the center for 4 years now, in the ECE field for the last 6 years, with my Bachelors in ECE. I donāt understand why they even gave me an interview if they knew they werenāt going to hire me due to my experience only being in the classroom. But I digress.
They hire someone to replace the director and she wasnāt able to fulfill the commitment. They then hired another person as director who took back their acceptance Sunday night before their first day. They keep trying to hire and people either donāt show up to the interview or donāt get the job.
Licensing suddenly shows up for a surprise inspection. Woop woop. Director or no Director, weāre pretty self sufficient and do well, everyoneās caught up with their stuff. One major ding tho. Thereās no one in charge. Thereās no director. The person in charge of HR/the hiring committee shows the licensing lady around. With no one listed as the director of the center, we are told that we need a director or we are at risk of being shut down or something like that.
HR comes to me and gives me the whole, āSomeone has to be in charge. Were you serious about wanting the job because nowās your time to shine!ā I ask why they donāt just hire me for the job. They say they want someone who already has experience that way they wouldnāt have to start from scratch and train a whole new director. I take it because we all need jobs and I donāt want the place to shut down as thatāll screw everyone (staff, families, students,) over.
I bust my butt off for months making sure everything is running smoothly while also running my own classroom. Iām essentially working 2 positions. They hire a new director. She has 20 years of admin experience and has her Associates in Child Development. We get along well. Thereās talk of potentially making me an assistant director and keeping me in an admin role. Iām excited, this is great. Lifeās going well.
I then get called into the office. The director and HR is there. They go over my new admin role. I love it but two things. The pay is only $1 more than what teachers make. Iām getting a ton more responsibilities and only a dollar raise. I try to negotiate and the answer is no. Another problem, I have to work the closing shift. I take night classes and work a night job at times. I need my morning shift.
I tell them this and they say, āOk then this is your last day as admin. I would like your master keys on my desk by the end of the day. Starting tomorrow, you will be back to your teaching position and your pay rate will reflect that. You can go back to your classroom; thank you for your time.ā
Thatās it? All that work and what did it get me? Why did I do it? I worked my butt off for months to make sure we stay open and operating and at the end of the day, what did that do for me? I took initiative, worked hard, went above and beyond like never before and in the end, I got nothing. I have every right to be salty about this, right???
