People With Ridiculous Records

I've come back to playing Ultimate Team and Ranked on this game after a couple months off and I have made a pretty wacky observation.

What's up with these players that have a record of 1000L and half the wins? I mean it'd be okay if they were good, but how can you have over one thousand fights and still suck at the game?! Do you know one of these players, are you one yourself?

Someone explain this to me I can't wrap my head around it! I'm division 6 and win more than I lose (Current Record 82W - 7L) and I can't imagine someone having 10 x more fights and still having literally no idea how to play the game!
