Hello everyone. This is my first time posting on Reddit so I hope I explain myself well. I have had dyslexic tendencies and seizures since I had brain surgery to the left side of my head (right above my ear) in 2015. I also have ADHD. Because of this I have problems talking, reading, and with my short term memory. However, the most bizarre thing happens when I am practicing music. Specifically piano. The first thing that can happen while I’m playing is I sometimes end up pausing and can’t even register what notes are anymore. It takes me a few seconds to remember what they are and what they mean before I can continue playing. The second thing happens when I sit down to practice long pieces. I can be playing and reading the music just fine but then the sound starts to change. I come to realize that I am playing the Treble clef with my left hand and the Bass clef with my right hand. I ended up switching parts in the middle of the piece and don’t even realize it! And it’s hard to refocus on playing the piece correctly. I get dizzy, the music looks blurry and my brain has a hard time comprehending that what I just played was wrong. One time I had a small seizure trying to refocus on the music.
I know this isn’t a medical community but I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of such a thing happening? Is this normal? How could I stop it from happening or learn to control it? I will be consulting my doctor about it soon but any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.
