How can I calculate encounter CR to Hoard random treasure?

Post Body

Hi everyone,

page 133 of DMG describes how and when you should use the Hoard table for random treasure. But I don't understand how I should determine the encounter CR to use on the table.

Practical example. An horde of 36 demons (18x Dretch, 18x Manes) it's just been obliterated by my players. So I let them found in the temple a chest with a lot of loot. As page 133 of DMG said, I should consider the CR of the encounter 1/4 (the higher in the horde, and the one of the "carry" monster). But stands to D&D Beyond encounter builder, its CR it's 8.

Two different tables, for two totally different loots.

How should I calculate the CR of big encounters or with very different monsters to generate an hoard treasure? I know that there are online options, but I would really like some math or an algorithm to find it out.

Thanks in advice
