Id like to make a dwarf without a class

Post Body

Title, I'd like to make a dwarf pc who was raised by humans (a wizard or lich) and knows nothing about dwarven culture, except for what he has read in human books(which are quite often inaccurate). He would be like a help in the castle to fix things or so but does not practice magic like his master. He is an excellent smith due to his dwarven blood. I had the idea of just going with the flow and depending on the party and story, they learn a class.

I do have to chose a starting class though and he not really a fighter, much more a scholar due to spending time reading. It's the first time he ventures this far and hopes to encounter dwarves and wants to learn their lore. But with what class should I start?
