Kevin Malones character shift.

As I circle back to the first few seasons, I noticed Kevins character changes at some point. In the beginning seasons of the show Kevin Malone is very very quite and reserved. Some where along the line his character breaks out his shell much more. He starts being more engaged, telling jokes, all around more fun. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, where do you think the change happened exactly?
