Just spitballing:
Jim is the better salesman, but Dwight is better at selling paper.
Jim makes it clear from the very first time we see him that he doesn’t give a shit about the actual products Dunder Mifflin sells. But he’s still able to move similar volume as Dwight, who left Dunder Mifflin for Staples, because he knows the industry and products better.
Jim eventually starts his own company and sells totally different services and does well there, too. And he’s better there than at Dunder Mifflin because he’s whole-assing it and is passionate about it.
