How come no one caters to dumpster divers with products designed to help us do what we do... like how other hobbies do?
Post Body

For example... someone needs to make/design a light small compact ladder that allows us to safely get in an out of dumpsters. I use a bucket, but it is inadequate and I am tearing my arms an shins up getting in and out.

If you were to design a ladder, what would it be like? I'd make it out of aluminum and it would have a hook at the top to fit on the lip of the dumpster and large magnets covered in rubber so it could be attached to the front of the dumpster so it is stable. Maybe telescoping too to make it more compact.

Van/RV ladders too. They tend to be not as wide as a pool ladder.

It is for me!

I am a born scavenger. Was previously a scrapper and metal detectorist. I have an odd predilection for looking through things for better things. I did coin roll hunting too.

I would LOVE to do gold panning, gem hunting, fossil hunting etc. etc..

I should have started dumpster diving 20 years ago

Yeah I have one at home, but want something better.

I have recently found that a trampoline ladder is best suited for now. Not ideal, though. To make it close to ideal I would have to find one I can modify to make it not as wide. And add spacers and 2 disc magnets (which I already found in dumpsters) to the bottom so it sticks to the dumpster front

so let's see....

Ladder possibilities: Deer stand stick ladder, boat ladder. RV/Van ladder, bunk bed ladder, trampoline ladder.....

Note: a trampoline ladder looks very well suited. They even have hooks on the top. And they are cheap! As low as $15

I have always had a problem with being unsatisfied with a ready made product. So I often modify them to suit my needs if I can. A LOT of times I know exactly what I want/need and cannot find a ready made product.

I want an extendable hookstick with foldable foot pegs that has magnets that keep it stable on the front of a dumpster.

I have dropped my folding worklight and my glasses several times in dumpsters. Once my boot!

I usually go inside and have found things I would have missed if I had not gone inside. I have a hookstick I use for nasty dumpsters I do not want to jump inside.

Besides, I like to get inside the not nasty ones , close the lid and root around, and I will sit there with the bag of goodies and sort what I want to take and what I want to leave. Like the other day there was a big bag of mostly chocolates in one dumpster and I took all the ferrero roche and andes mints and left most of the other stuff behind.

for scaling those dumpster enclosures. I have seen a couple that were just nuts. One nearly two stories tall.

Good idea, but my bucket is inadequate and unwieldy. I HAVE used my hook stick to hook my bucket to bring it into the dumpster and bring it out again. But I have been leaving both behind because they are a pain to carry. I need compact and specialized tools to better do my thing.

edit: I would love to have a hookstick that can transform into a one post ladder with pegs that collapse on either side to use as a ladder.
