XYZ Dragon Cannon deck

Post Body

I want to improve my current build, since its pretty much just a basic setup that most people have already tried. So far I'm getting pretty decent results in Platinum, with wins vs. Mako/Red Eyes decks.

Deck Explanations

I'm not gonna explain the obvious cards like the main trio, but I'll explain what I feel like is important.

The main goal of the deck is to control the board with the appropriate X-Y-Z combo fusions while playing reactionary to the opponents board state. I originally expected XYZ Dragon Cannon to be the endgame goal (similar to BEWD or something) but I actually almost never use the completed cannon and instead use multiple double combos. Frontline Base allows fast combos and frequently allows instant fusions which, in turn, allows quick board control. The deck is ultimately focused around defense so that the three core monsters can be protected while active.

Important Card Explanations:

  • Frontline Base is one of the most important cards in the deck, as its the engine that lets me fuse quickly in order to play reactionary to my opponents moves.

  • Luminous Spark is more or less the "end game" of the deck. Getting Luminous Spark active turns my weakest monsters into 2000 beaters, and enables my weakest fusions to overpower Red-Eyes and Sacred Phoenix. Since such few decks attack backrow with Harpies being on the decline, I really only have to worry about Sacred Phoenix or random tech'd Twisters.

  • Super Rush Headlong is my primary method of defense thanks to the deck's ability to swarm or do heavy damage with a buffed/fused beater in a single turn with Frontline Base. SRH always has huge swing potential in any deck, so it serves its purpose here too.

  • Machina Peacekeeper is incredible at protecting the fusions, and is especially devastating to opponents who require Beatdown to get over the fusions like Red Eyes or Naturia Stag Beetle. Peacekeeper keeps the fusion alive through their attack so that they can kill in retaliation the following turn.

Fusion Choice

I've got one of each of the fusions primarily for versatility, so I've always got an option available. The extra deck size is kind of a drag since it makes selecting which fusion to use at a time a pivotal enough that removing one from your arsenal at a bad time could end entire games for you. I opted for one of each with an extra XZ Tank Cannon as I felt he was most effective. His stats being the most dominant of the three allows him to win against basically every common meta monster except for Blue Eyes when Luminous Spark is active, and backrow removal tends to be the most pivotal ability.

Potential replacements

  • Planet Pathfinder: Considering teching in this card to increase the odds of acquiring Luminous Spark. I prefer him to a third Luminous since he's still a body that serve a purpose if Luminous is already active.

  • Machina Peacekeeper: Considering increasing the number of Peacekeepers to keep my fusions active, possibly to 2.

So thats the deck in closing. It seems effective so far, but has some weaknesses like the reliance on Luminous Spark (despite being incredibly effective when its active) that I would hope to address. Thanks for any help in advance.
