How does comprehensive insurance work on a late model bike that is stolen?
Post Body

To keep a long post short, I caught someone attempting to steal my 2003 wr250f from my jobs parking lot last fall. I had been riding in all year and using a length of chain to lock it to a telephone pole that within sight from the nearest door, but because some construction had happened and the pole was removed (along with my chain), I had it locked to the fence with a steel cable. I just happened to walk out the very moment a dude was cutting it. I ran towards him and yelled wtf and he hopped in a car driven by someone else. While standing there stunned and calling security, they circled the parking lot 3 times to see if I had left because they were 3/4 the way thru the cable.

Anyways, I stopped riding it to work and it sucks. Iā€™m a single dad with three young kids and didnā€™t realize how much happiness my rides to work and ā€œtaking the long wayā€ rides home brought me. I added comprehensive to my insurance policy and to my surprise, even with the lowest deductible, my premium stayed the same at $70 per year. I assume itā€™s because of the age/value of my bike. Iā€™ve been wanting to start riding in again, I put an air tag in my seat foam, would bring in a new length of heavy chain, and check on it every two minutes.. my job even had security and cameras, but the security really is worthless.. adding this comprehensive doesnt bring much peace of mind tho because obviously I love my bike and donā€™t want it to get stolen. But. If I did ride in, and in the worst circumstance, it did get stolenā€¦ does GEICO payout market value for my bike or like find an ā€œequal valueā€ replacement? My deductible is $50, I paid $2,250 for the bike 2 years ago. Iā€™m mid 30s and never once had to submit a claim of any kind to any insurance company. Iā€™m erring on the safe side still and havenā€™t ridden it to work since that day, but with the weather getting nicer itā€™s getting harder to resist. Any help with understanding is greatly appreciated.

Oh, to add.. in my state I was able to get the title changed from off highway to regular MC. The bike doesnā€™t need a key to start it but I donā€™t think that matters so much because it weighs 230lbs. Also, the night my bike was almost stolen, police did come but it was after the guys left.
