Help. My OD office didn’t tell me to stop using retinoids (tretinoin) before my IPL procedure today. Is the damage already done?
Post Body

I had my first of 4 IPL treatments today to treat dry eye. I was unaware until I was googling post care for IPL that I should stop using my retinoid a week before the procedure. I called and he said that it was fine but to not use it for one week following (so 7 days from now) and to stop one week prior to my other treatments from now on, but I’m freaking out that I’m going to wake up to a huge reaction tomorrow. I’m less worried about this, but I also used a self tanner on my face yesterday which I saw another office online listed as a no-no. I don’t use any of these things right around my eyes, but the treatment covered down to my cheeks.

Update: woke up this morning and face feels and looks fine. I have an omnilux red light therapy mask that helps with redness and Madagascar centella or Tula sense together skin drops are great in situations like this so I think those have helped too ☺️ thank you everyone for your helpful comments

You're probably fine. I think the issue is just that retinoids sensitize the skin and then you could have some inflammation from the IPL being applied to already sensitive skin. If you've been using retinoids for a while and are past the sensitivity stage you're probably ok.
