Beginning drummer - my right hand is way more coordinated than my left
Post Body

So, got some sticks and a practice pad for Christmas, sat down with some drumeo videos for beginners, everything feels OK but it's immediately apparent that I've got decent timing with my right hand, but my left has terrible timing - if I miss the beat, I'm probably missing it with my left hand.

Similarly, I watched a video on how to hold the sticks. My right hand falls very naturally into a decent and comfortable grip, and I get a good controlled but bouncy response from the practice pad. My left hand I feel like I'm holding it the same, I'm not strangling the stick or anything, but I get practically zero bounce off the pad. When I try to replicate the response I get with my right hand, it feels super awkward, like I'm a 3 year old just whacking the surface with a stick.

My whole life I've played out little rhythms with my hands on my legs or on the table tops, but I guess my right hand has always carried the weight of whatever I was doing.

Are there any exercises to try and bring my left hand up to speed with my right? Just keep practicing and it'll catch up on its own? Anyone have a similar experience?
