I don't really like our HQ options this edition, but I believe the Archon provides the most utility. Since he wants to be on foot and is more of a combat character I tried to play to his and the armies' strengths. Even though we are a shooting army this edition, I really like the idea of a melee unit that can clean models off of an objective after a round or two of shooting. With that in mind the archon is on foot with the court and 5 of the non-special weapons warriors. I think this is our most cost-efficient melee unit in the codex due to getting the archon on the table and getting "attack first" which is vital this edition all the rerolls to hit and wound, Lethal hits, sustained hits (On ur-ghaul), and survivability with the Slyth's ability to make wounding harder, the archon's 2 save, the extra warriors bodies, (sybarite is kind of nice too) and more two wound characters for less points than several of our other options. These guys sit behind cover, providing protection for my backline or cleaning off an objective mid game after the threats are softened by my shooting. The Warriors with the special weapons are in the Venom. (The only other HQ I kind of like is the beast master, but then you lose Vect which is so important this edition, and I really like this unit more for what it brings)

The list has 28 dark lances, the two prismatic cannons, and lots and lots of splinter fire for chaff. Several opportunities for deep strike if needed. The mandrakes hang back to grab objectives later. Cronos stays central to try and save pain tokens and help out where he can. I really like having a strong battle line with the 40 warriors, especially with sticky objectives, great shooting and high objective control count. I tried to get lots of redundancy and not have too many points in one place providing several targets to worry about. The list is 2,000 points on the nose.

What do you guys think? What would you change? How do you feel about the Archon unit? The only thing I wish I could fit in here is maybe another group of Mandrakes or potentially another Voidweaver. However, I can't justify what to give up getting those things.
