How much mdma to sample to make sure it’s safe? In powder form

So idk much about this stuff because my bf used to get it all but he used to sample a little bit to make sure it was safe to take. One time it was laced with heroin or something and he only sampled a little bit, he didn’t tell me how much, and he was sick for like a week. So basically, how many mg should I sample to test that it is safe before I actually take a dose?
