Why two completely different experiences with the same substance (mdma)?

I bought some pills off a mate from the same batch I’ve done loads of times and in the past it’s given me the best mdma high with an absolute fuck ton of energy.

Anyways recently I decided to roll in a group of 3 from this same batch and wow was the experience totally different.

The come up was so intense we all had to sit down because our hearts were beating so fast and hard and we spent the whole 3 hours sat down in the same position not moving. It only felt enjoyable to sit down and it was almost tiring to get up and do anything.

These pills are all dosed the same so my question is, why the completely different experiences? Does anticipation/excitement for the roll build it up?
