Barbiturates were once the kings of anxiety relief, sleep aids, and anticonvulsants before benzodiazepines took their place in the 1960s. These days, they’re almost unheard of outside of very specific medical situations.
I’ve been reading up on them and find it fascinating how they compare to benzos—both in terms of effects and risks. They were notoriously dangerous because of their overdose potential, but some say the experience they provide is distinct, maybe even more intense than benzodiazepines.
Does anyone here have knowledge, experience, or opinions about barbiturates? I’m curious to hear why they faded into the background and if they still hold any relevance today. Also currently on a barbiturate and diazepam have a good night guys.
