Why nicotine cant be used occasionally?

What is the main reason that nicotine in contrast to other drugs like weed or alcohol cant be use like once or twice a week? Maybe because effects fade quickly? For example alcohol also doesnt last for decades but many people manage to use it on the weekends and dont have cravings or extreme needing to drink in other days.
