When you take psychedelics, it can really help you work through tough moments and bring benefits that last way longer than the drug in your system. But it still depends on you, you have to think and do all the legwork.
Opioids just make you feel good straight away, no questions asked. You are just content with whatever you have and what you're going through, albeit only for as long as the drug is in your system. It also made me think of this because a lot of people who are homeless and/or suffer from MDD get addicted to opiods specifically.
Do you think opioids can make even the most terrible situations seem good to you? Let's imagine two scenarios:
scenario A: you are homeless, have no one, invisible to society or perceived as a nuisance. Because of this you always feel anxious, depressed, contemplating ending your life. Every day feels bleak and hopeless.
Scenario B: your life is okay in terms of financial security but one day your partner leaves you and you have mental issues that get exacerbated by this. You enter into a state of extreme depression and anxiety. Your perception of your self-worth drops to zero. Every day feels like torture.
Both scenarios seem pretty bad in terms of perceived unhappiness despite the fact that scenario A is a lot worse in terms of material conditions and chances of recovery.
Can strong opioids like oxycontin and opana make those terrible situations seem totally great to the people experiencing them, making them happy in the short term? Or even euphoria from opioids can't negate such horrendous circumstances?
