So I've been prescribed benzodiazepines for a few years for anxiety relief on demand, not regular use. It seems that the positives totally outweigh the negatives. When anxiety is controllable, there is no need to use it but if you can't function or sleep because of anxiety, it seems that benzos help the most. Never had to withdraw from it as the longest I've had to use it every day was for a week.
Some people say that benzos are being increasingly underprescribed or that these are evil drugs to stay away from. How true is that? There doesn't seem to be anything else as of now with a similar safety profile that is intended to provide immediate anxiety relief.
The situation may be different if unmanageable anxiety happens every day, then perhaps benzodiazepines may not be the best choice. Antidepressants can help but again, for many they don't produce any significant or sufficient anxiolytic effect
