Sassafras adverse reaction with epilepsy medication

I know someone who takes medication for their epilepsy but is a seasoned drug user and apparently went into a state of mild paralysis while taking sassafras a couple weeks ago for the first time. I understand that it could be anti depressants reacting with an MAOI so my question is are sassafras doses often combined with MAOI inhibitors to help them function? Or if not does anyone have any idea what could have caused this given the limited information I have? Many thanks
