Why do some people get high on phenibut and some people don't?

I'm really curious as to why this is happening. When I tell people that I used to like to mix alcohol with phenibut and get a strong euphoria from it, they all say it's self-hypnosis. But it's a real high. It's like a low dose of ecstasy. Whereas other people don't react to this drug at all.
Even my psychiatrist didn't believe me that my drug of choice was phenibut and alcohol.
