I had to use my Narcan for the first time last night

Post Body

21M, I’m certified in CPR and First Aid, and I always carry Narcan and test strips with me to raves almost every weekend. Ive never had an overdose and none of my friends or family have either, but I’ve just always been hyper aware of the dangers of taking drugs from strangers at parties, and yet I see people do this all the time, even my own friends🤦🏽‍♂️

And that’s exactly what this girl did before she came up to say hi to me and then said “hold on I’ll be right back.”

I see her go over to another table and sit down and talk to her friend and then I got sidetracked into a different conversation. Not even 2 minutes later, her friend walks up to my group and asks “does anybody have any Narcan??”

I immediately responded “I DO” while raising my hand. He took me over to her where she all of sudden looked sick and loopy. She was struggling to keep her eyes open and stay sitting up, but she was still very much conscious so I handed her a dose, she asked me how to take it and I told her to shoot it up her nose. She administered it herself, and almost immediately, she stated she felt better. She also became more alert again, and I let her take the second dose I had, bc she was paranoid that the first one wasn’t enough (I’m pretty sure it was, but better safe than sorry)

She’s ok, she texted me not too long ago thanking me, my friends also called me a hero, but I don’t think I saved anyone’s life?? She snorted “Tusi,” that pink powder before she came to say hi to me. She was the only person who had that reaction to it, one of my friends took some along with the rando who offered it in the first place. She also wasn’t nodding out and managed to stay conscious, I wasn’t sure the Narcan would work because we didnt know if she was off an opioid or not, but there’s not harm in trying, right??

When I was trained for this, we’re told we gotta call 911, look for pinpoint pupils, the person is usually unconscious and you might as well try slapping them awake before starting CPR. This wasnt anything like that. I’m here ready to call an ambulance, meanwhile she just takes the Narcan like a boss and goes the fuck home.

This is honestly just a rant about how I expected my first time using Narcan to be a major emergency, but it wasn’t, and that’s a good thing. I hope my friends also start bringing their Narcan after seeing a situation where it was needed. I hope more people will start caring.

She was absolutely gorgeous too, and it scares me that she MIGHT not have been here anymore if I wasn’t there last night.

Moral of the story; Carry Narcan, you don’t know when you’re gonna need it, and don’t take substances from people you’ve never met before 🤦🏽‍♂️
