I thought this was interesting. they gave suxamethonium and rocuronium (neuromuscular blockers/paralytic drugs) to volunteer anesthesiologists WITHOUT sedation/fully awake lol.
These drugs completely paralyze you. You can’t move or breathe, so they had the participants on mask ventilation. I guess the aim of the study was to understand what patients experience when they have accidental awareness during anesthesia. Sounds terrifying, but interesting to hear what it’s like being chemically paralyzed.
One gem from the study: “If subjects tried to breathe during paralysis, it immediately invoked a sense of suffocation and panic”
