Has anybody pursued Chemistry/Pharmaceutical/Biomedical Science etc. in college/professionally, in part or in whole due to enjoying drugs?

I'm thinking of doing the same, but I'm afraid that I might not truly enjoy the field, and that committing to it for the wrong reasons could leave me miserable.
To those who have done so,
What was your rationale?
Was it what you expected?
Do you regret it, or still enjoy it?
And does it pay well?
I'm really conflicted, so I'd appreciate any opinions :) Anyone with more to share please DM me!
