Are torsen diffs really that bad? (For street car)

Post Body

I've an e36 that's going to be purely street with the odd bit of circuit stuff (would love to bring it back to the nurburgring).

Initially I'm like they came with oem clutch LSDs in the m3 so clutch ones can't be too bad but the more I looked into the more potential for hassle there is with a aftermarket lsd like a kaaz one.

So now I'm considering a torsen one (quaife?) Mainly because a) no/little maintenance and b) strong af.

I just want to hold a decent slide around 1 corner up the mountains and it be predictable and fun.

Welding would be cheap, but is absolute dog shit for any circuit stuff and again is a street car.

I know there will be the one "hurr durr it's just an open diff" comment but I'd like some actual technical insight. Drifting is not 0 grip a mechanical/torsen in theory should work fine, it's not locking but it's also not a open diff either.

Edit : also worth noting a kaaz lsd will be cheaper, but the maintenance will not be, depending how long they last (10k miles?)
