A Colorful Swim
Post Body

I dreamt I was swimming an open-water marathon. It was very colorful and there were many people. The water was colored based on the tiny variations in water chemistry around the swimmers. There was a fence to the left which caused the ph and the dissolved metals in the water to rise, turning it a deep blue, in another place around some swimmers conditions turned the water red and orange. It was beautiful sight to see the flowing reds, greens, and blues swirling like dye in the clear, bright ocean water.

To accompany these interesting visuals, announcers displayed a 3d state diagram, wherein each state of water (there are many (mostly ice)) was a different color, the z-axis of the cube had something to do with the demographics of the swimmers (their age perhaps?). As the display section of the cube passed through, small changes could be observed in the state diagram.

I don’t think a graph like that makes sense, really… but I suppose varying salinity does change the state diagram, so other changes in water parameters could too, I guess. Regardless, the state diagram was very pretty, a posterized gradient of deep reds and blues overlayed with isometric lines of bright orange.

The colors in the water were reminiscent of “the color run”, and were equally enjoyable. This feeling is only in retrospect, however. While in the race, my thoughts dwelled on whale sharks, basking sharks, my relative youth compared to other participants (I was a teenager and most were 40s-50s), and worries that I was not pacing myself well enough due to the fact that I was unexpectedly moving to the front of the pack. I believe I knew one other person in the race, and he was expressing similar sentiment.

The sharks make sense, I was looking them up before sleeping last night. The rest is almost completely random. I mean, I like diagrams and the ocean and colors... I'd love to hear any thoughts on this.
