to be honest I've realised recently that I just straight up don't like the third film I tried to like it despite coming out of the cinema feeling nothing but empty after seeing it a few months ago and I'm a big trolls fan I was excited as hell in the months leading up to it.
but this movie just pisses me off the more and more I think about it due to its shoddy Family message Branch's Bros are not people deserving of a second chance which he already gave them but then they were gonna ditch him again so really they're not deserving of a third chance.
the narrative rushes Branch to forgive them for no real reason other than family even tho their actions and words have done everything to prove that they aren't really family their basically total strangers to him who in the short time he's known them have abandoned him for petty reasons.
ignored his feelings and at worst mocked him for being upset that they were going to ditch him again Bruce and JD were straight up cruel in the argument scene and the movie did not do enough if anything to redeem them as characters and actually make the family reunion at the end feel earned.
and Honestly it kinda Breaks my Heart a little that this is the film that's started causing the fandom to Grow Big and that most people who were fans and even some who weren't have said they loved this film and that its what got them into the Trolls fandom.
which makes me a little sad since I feel this film actually has the weakest writing with the least effort put into it than the First two films which deserved this sorta attention a lot more than this film did imo.
given the writing in this film was afraid to actually put in effort in Regards to its emotional content every emotional scene was cut short by Jokes and no I don't mean they had Jokes in them like in the first film I mean in this film the Jokes literally cut the scenes off like Branch walking out on his brothers and them seeing his childhood Bunker Picture.
only to have the scene be cut off with Clay's comedic "" wait Grandma got eaten? "" or Branch relating to Viva over her fear of the outside world due to the Bergens I love this idea but it gets cut off by turning it into a Joke about Branch going on about how he didn't wear pants and Tiny making his little comment.
and like I said the film was so afraid of emotion it didn't even actually wrap up the Brothers Drama instead we had a single line from Bruce saying they would let Branch Bail them out of trouble and then afterwards they were forgiven like is this really the film that pleased even the General audiences?
the first movie Handled its emotional stuff a whole lot better imo it was far from perfect yeah there were Jokes even in the emotional scenes but the Jokes didn't cut the scenes short the Jokes just happened and then the scenes continued afterwards.
and the entire True Colours scene alone was handled better than any of the emotional stuff in TBT yet the third film is the one that's pleasing even people who didn't like the other two films? that just seems straight up Baffling to me I'm sorry.
and as a Result of the Emotional scenes actually being taken somewhat seriously and the film taking the time to wrap up character arcs made the final Dance number actually work as an emotional climax whereas TBT feels to me sorta like if the first movie had cut out the entire True Colours scene.
and instead just had Branch say "" I'll follow your lead Poppy "" and then that was that his and Poppy's character arcs were wrapped up and they just Jumped straight on to "" Can't stop the feeling "" and the ending of the film. as "" Better place "" is a friggin beautiful song and listening to the movie version on its own is wonderful it makes me feel more than the actual film did.
but in the film itself it was unearned to me and Honestly I felt pretty disappointed because it was at this point I Realised the movie was over and it wasn't actually going to wrap up the emotional character Drama I basically felt like the movie set me up for an emotional climax and then deleted the scene and just Jumped straight to the ending.
wow that was a long Rant lol.
look if you enjoyed TBT good for you if anything I'm actually jealous since I wanted to like this film because I was so excited in the months leading up to it but it just bothers me on a very personal level with what it tries to say about Family and how it feels like it did the Bare Minimum with its story Beats.
edit. sorry in Hindsight this post came across as very negative and I just wanted to be 100 percent clear that I wasn't trying to make anyone else feel bad or say your wrong for enjoying the film I'm still a big Trolls fan as well I just didn't particularly care for TBT but if you enjoy it I'm not trying to change your mind or say your wrong for enjoying it.
