So I've been seeing this on tiktok alot lately (and yea, i be using tiktok vehemently)
"Dreads are dying" or "Dreadheads are falling off", "Cuffem sold" etc etc
people are saying it's dying out (as a trend) . I don't care if it is or isn't, because it is more than just a trend.
But do you guys care? I've seen alot of people cutting their dreads because it's 'not as hot' anymore and saying that they have to 'cut it off before it's too late' .
Isn't that kinda weird? I got my starter locs because i sincerely think dreads look cool, and want it for myself. I also don't really mind the idea of it becoming a more niche thing.
How do you guys feel about it?
Edit: Hey yall, so ik locs aren't just a trend. I also know that they were a thing for a very long time (I've (been told by older people about how they were loved even during the 90's)
I'm not confused about it's history within the black community. It's just that it undeniably got extremely popular, which is just gonna bring people into the community that aren't really in it as a personal choice or journey, and are more in it to be a part of a trend.
I don't care at all about what's trending, i just think it's weird that people are so fickle about it, but I'm not you guys, so I want to hear your thoughts.
Yes but why do that in such a way that’s almost permanent just to follow a trend? There are other protective styles.
See this is why I think not being on TikTok is good for people’s mental health. Just do you. Who tf cares what other people say.

Why would you do that with an almost permanent hairstyle though? I feel like people on that train just buy wigs.
