So I'll begin by giving some context. My Mom passed just over a year ago (9 November), after a 6 year battle with cancer which started out in her cervix and ended up in her brain and lungs. She grew up in a conservative Catholic household, and went to Catholic school. When she was first married she wanted to get a tattoo, but my father (her first husband) told her the "only criminals get tattoos". When she was 57 she finally got a dragonfly tattoo on her right shoulder (I'll explain the why if you would like to know). It was hidden 99.9% of the time. I would like to get a tattoo that she would have liked, but did not find the courage to get.
So that being said, this will be my tattoo, and a tribute to her. I initially though about getting "Mom" done in binary, but that is more me than her so I started thinking about how to make it a blend of both of us (it is my skin). So here is my idea: take the binary string: 001011010110111101101101 (Mom) and make it in to flowers with the zeros being open flowers and the ones being closed flowers. I had the idea to ring these around my arm and possibly connect with a "vine" or something to tie them together. I would like a variety of flowers, but there are a few "musts" the first one being a Calla Lilly - it was her favorite (and it's mine) the other is a Poppy as I'm a veteran and so was her father (and both of her husbands for that matter) also need to have a pansy because of the toughness of that particular flower. Interspersed among the flowers it would be ideal if there were dragonflies (go figure), hummingbirds and butterflies - none of which should be very prominent. The focus should be the flower chain.
I also would like this to start from the dragonfly that is already there http://imgur.com/IQBe1Kr and continue down my arm - it does not matter how far as long as it's not past the wrist (I'm still on Active Duty). I would also like to add some color and detail to the existing tattoo so that it feels like it's a cohesive unit.
Please feel free to ask any specific question to help focus the effort.
Thanks in Advance!
