I'll start by saying that I really liked how different the world felt during post-game, it truly felt like an apocalypse was happening (until you talk to npcs and they're mostly fine). A big thing I didn't like about post-game was the lead up to it. It didn't feel like a "Here's the moment everything is about to change" and I felt really blind sighted by it. This is compared to the "Coronation" quest (I put it in quotations because it was yet another story beat that was set up and fell flat) where Brant tells you to complete any unfinished business you have and you get to do just that. However, with this I simply thought I was doing another mission by tailing Phaesus and then BAM it's time to fight the Dragon (Which I was very unprepared for and took 2 hours to finish) and then BAM it's the end of the game...or is it?! Dun Dun Dun, but wait BAM its now post game and everything's changed. Yeah you can still complete some quests but at least in the first game it felt like you were going after the Dragon rather than the story remembering he exists.
Then post-game happens and I not only feel confused but everything feels like it's on go 100%. It would have been interesting to see how the world tries to adjust to the way things are but nope. I like the idea of having to bring all the "nations" together because that has the potential for certain npcs who'd never interact with each other to have cool scenes depending on who's alive or who you may align with but again no. I also didn't even know that there was a place for elves so having to go talk to them was a huge disappointment because I've never been to this place before and I just straight up go Terminator with "Come with me if you want to live" and they just say ok. I know it's on me for not exploring the world that much but even that could have played into the story. They've never seen me before until the world ends so maybe they accuse me of bringing evil to their doorstep and it makes it even harder for me to convince them. At the end of the day, I just gathered everyone so quickly that I had to spam sleep in my bed while the occasional cutscene of different nations being destroyed happened and then.....nothing. No new quests involving the leaders coming together, new interesting cutscenes or dialogue, just activate the end of the game "fight" and game over.
All in all, maybe it's just my fault for "rushing" through the game but I truly don't feel like I rushed. I was constantly looking for quests to do and when none showed up or weren't worth it I just did the main quest. Most of the time I was wondering around the game just to level myself up and find things to do and out of nowhere I found myself at the post-game and by that time I just didn't feel like bothering. I'm doing my second playthrough now and I'm having to look up quests in various areas and its a shame that a lot of them just flew under the radar. I like the aspect that you can miss out on certain quests or storylines if you don't observe or talk to npcs but then again I wish there was some balance. A lot of quests I got my first time around were due to npcs stopping me so I didn't think that I had to actively talk to npcs to start some.
